Royal Challengers Bangalore has announced their captain for the new season of IPL. Virat Kohli was the captain of the team till last season, but he had announced before the start of the second phase that he would step down from the captaincy after the season.
Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bangalore has announced their captain for the new season of IPL. The team has given the command to former South African captain Faf du Plessis.
Till last season, Virat Kohli was the captain of the team. He had decided to step down from the captaincy before the start of the second phase of the season. Virat had captained the team for the first time in 2011. Earlier, apart from Virat, 5 players had captained Bangalore. Rahul Dravid was the first captain of the team. After that Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Kevin Pietersen and Shane Watson took charge of the team.
The Bengaluru team will start their campaign in the league on March 27. The team will face Punjab Kings at the DY Patil Sports Academy ground in Mumbai. Bengaluru has not won the IPL title yet. The team last played the final match in 2016, when it was defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The new captain will be responsible for getting the team the trophy. In the IPL auction, Bengaluru had bought Harshal Patel for 10.75 crores. Apart from Virat Kohli, the team had retained Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj in the auction. AB de Villiers has retired and he is also not part of the team.
